Book Arts Project

After we wrote our perfect Planet story we made a book. We worked with Peg Gignoux to make these books. She taught us how to make a leaf print on paper with just ink. We cut out pictures of the leaves and pasted them on our book. If you want to learn more about Peg Gignoux visit here: https://gignouxart.com/

Musical Theater

Broadway-Plakate.JPG

A couple of weeks ago we had a Musical Theater performance. This performance was by 7th and 8th graders at DA. This performance include songs from musicals like Matilda, Legally Blonde, High School Musical and so many more. Musical theater has singing, dancing and acting. Going on stage to preform in front of your peers takes a lot confidence.

Colonel Virts

Taken By my teacher

A couple weeks ago Colonel Virts visited DA. Terry W. Virts, Jr. was selected by NASA in 2000. The Maryland native graduated with Academic Distinction from the United States Air Force Academy in 1989 and has logged over 4,300 flight hours in more than 40 different aircraft. He served as the Endeavour pilot for STS-130 in 2010, and was assigned to Expedition 42/43, where he served as commander for Expedition 43 in 2015. Virts has conducted three spacewalks totaling more than 19 hours and has logged 212 days in space on his two flights. (From NASA) He talked about his flight to space and from space. Also he explained how he slept in space. He got into a sleeping bag and floated around a little room. You also have to exercise a lot in space because you are not standing and even while standing you are using your legs.

My Story

Goodnight Moon is a story that my Mom and Dad read to me as a kid. It was about a young bunny that is saying goodnight to different objects and creatures in the bedroom, as the young bunny slowly goes to bed as a bright moon glows through the window. My Mom and Dad read this to me as a baby because they thought it was a good way to start going to bed. This story is important to me because my parents read it all the time and my cousins also all read it. This book is one of the classics that I read as a kid. I had multiple copies of this book. One was for home and one was smaller and was for traveling. I keep this book in my memory box because it was a book that I read a lot when I was younger.

Stock Market

We are currently reading The Westing Game in LA. In The Westing Game the book talks about Stocks. Our class decided to simulate the Stock Market.  We made a spreadsheet with a math teacher. My LA teacher told use that we could only invest in company’s in the USA and if you can buy a product from them. We used google sheets for this. Our teacher gave us $20,000 totally real and definitely not fake money. Here is everything I invested in:

Then we had to make a logo:

Every week we have to update our stocks. Here are mine for this week ( I will warn you it is bad)

If you would like to do this to use this and make a copy so other people can use it to. Don’t touch the RED because your formulas will be messed up.

Successful Empire Brownies

In History class we had to show how the Persian Empire was successful. I made brownies to represent the empire. I made all of the ingredients into how the empire was successful and made the steps into how this made an empire.

Here it is:

Successful Empire Brownies

Photo from:https://iambaker.net/homemade-brownie-mix/

Ready in 559 B.C.E. to 331 B.C.E.

Serves 50 million people

50,000,000 calories

Ingredients

  • ▢ 1 cup of a sugary king who is merciful and kind
  • ▢ ⅓ cup unsweetened king Cyrus expanding boundaries of Persia cocoa powder,
  • ▢ ½ cup Persians getting money from crops flour
  • ▢ ¼ teaspoon of a monarchy investing in agriculture salt
  • ▢ ¼ teaspoon selling crops baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • ▢ ½ cup the religious Zoroastrianism butter,
  • ▢ 2 large Empire cooperating eggs, room temperature
  • ▢ 1 teaspoon rights vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 228 years and prepare a 50 million people pan with cooperation spray.
  • Sift the selling crops baking powder and the Persians getting money from crops flour. By mixing these ingredients, you can sell crops and get money from crops. Make sure you sift or they will not blend which means no money. This is the money part of the Persian empire brownies.
  • Next, add a sugary king who is merciful and kind and unsweetened king Cyrus expanding the boundaries of Persia cocoa powder into the other ingredients. When you add all this together it adds the kind and merciful part of the Persian Brownies.
  • Add the last dry ingredient, monarchy investing in agriculture salt. By adding the monarchy investing in agriculture salt it adds the animals and cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops. If you add it too early the animals will be running around and it will be too crazy.
  • Put the religion of Zoroastrianism butter into a bowl and let it sit for a while so people can practice the religion.
  • In a medium bowl, beat Empire cooperating eggs, at room temperature and rights vanilla extract with a hand-held mixer. When these ingredients mix you have governments cooperating and everyone having equal rights in the empire.
  • Add the egg mixture and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until just incorporated. When you mix all the ingredients it makes a nice almost complete empire.
  • Pour mixture into the prepared pan and bake from 559 B.C.E. to 331 B.C.E.
  • Then enjoy it for 228 years.

Tips

Be sure you don’t confuse the sugary king who is merciful and kind and Alexander sugar because Alexander sugar will rise to power much later. If you confuse it your Empire brownies will be flat.

Ginger Scones

I love to bake! My favorite thing to make is ginger scones. These ginger scones are special to me because every year when I go to my grandparents house in the summer I make these. Everyone loves them and depend on me to make them every year. They are a nice gingerly scone with tons of flavors. Here’s a TIP, you really don’t need the egg because it gets crispy on its own. (My grandparents don’t eat egg so I make them every year with out egg.)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. You can mix by hand or with a food processor or mixer, but be careful not to over blend the dry ingredients. If you over-blend, your scones will be tough and chewy. Put the 7 dry ingredients in a bowl and add the cubes of butter. With your fingers, or with 2 knives, blend the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles a course cornmeal. Some large pieces of butter should remain, this will make your scones light and fluffy. If you are using a processor, pulse briefly. Stir in the ginger bits. Add the milk and work quickly with a fork to incorporate. The dough should be soft and lightly moist. Again, don’t over-mix. Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and gently pat down until it stands about 1/2-inch thick. Cut into 12 triangles with a dough cutter or a knife and put onto an ungreased baking sheet. Brush the tops of the scones with the egg wash and sprinkle with some sugar. Bake for 12 minutes until golden. Let cool briefly.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

On Friday January 27, our school went to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. This museum was created in 1879 and established in 1887, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences one of the oldest established museums and the most popular historic destination in North Carolina. We went through the whole museum. At the museum we saw dinosaurs, a race exhibit, live animals, and so much more. We went to this exhibit that was all about race. In this exhibit, there were posters about famous people who made an impact and how Racism affects a lot of people. We ate lunch outside the museum.

A fun fact about me is that I was the millionth visitor at this museum  when I was I was 1 ½  here is some pictures and a video out me:

Perfect Planet Project

In LA we read The Last Cuentista. The main character went to a new planet. Here is my story about my planet:

My Planet name is Citrine. It is named after a rock called Citrine. It has been referred to as the “success stone,or “money stone.”  Citrine’s yellow color is thought of as a joyous stone with sunshiny energy to brighten up the lives of those who work with it and wear it. This planet is in the Pinwheel Galaxy. On Citrine there is not a lot of gravity. You can walk on it.

In Citrine there is a plant that needs sunlight 24/7. It is native to Citrine because on citrine it is never dark. On the inner surfaces of the plant it is gooey and sharp. This slime-like stuff is used for washing dishes and clothes. It’s yellow and has a bit of orange to match the planet’s color.

On this planet there is not a lot of water. There are two creeks, one on the Northside of the planet and one on the south side. This creek doesn’t give off clean water. You have to filter it yourself. There is a giant filter station right next to the creek. This creek gives off unlimited water throughout the day.

Citrine has 7 family’s living on it. These family’s got here because they are part of NASA. They are  doing a mission that is living on a planet for life. All 7 family’s are friends. But can sometimes have disagreements. They report back to NASA with a phone that looks like a flip phone. These people have evolved in Citrine. They have 6 foot feet  and 8 foot hands. Their hands and feet are webbed like ducks.

Hi! My name is Lily. I have lived on Citrine all my life. It is an interesting place because my parents keep telling me that on earth they didn’t have to get water from a creak. My parents alway complain about having to go get water in the morning. Now, that’s my job. So every morning I walk outside to get water. After I get water I go to school. Well homeschool. All the parents take turns teaching us. This week is my parents. We learned about Earth and the Solar System. After school all of us went outside to test more things on the planet. Since our parents work for NASA we have to collect data. Every year a spacecraft comes by to take any items we don’t need and our samples. Today was the day! It was so exciting. We got fresh new clothes, bed sheets and food from earth. This was the first time we got actual food from earth. I had something called Cheetos for a snack and my fingers were orange. It was sooo good. Anyway on Citrine we don’t eat. We survive off of water but they brought snacks for us to try.(AKA the kids who have never tasted earth food before) Before I knew it , it was time for bed. It never gets dark, so we have big thick black sheets as light blockers. I hope you enjoyed my Day in a Life
